PIAGGIO revolutionized the world of large chassis engine transmissions with the introduction of the II COSA clutch. All the current big problems with the chassis clutch were resolved overnight.
Since around 1995 the WHAT II clutch has been used in all VESPA PX EFL / '98 / MY / '11 and of course the WHAT II models built by PIAGGIO. Comes complete with 4 clutch plates, 8 springs and a sturdy clutch basket design. Due to the increased pressure created by the greater number of spas and the increased friction surface power can be transmitted more effectively between the crankshaft and the gearbox. Precision laser-cut clutch discs prevent any problems with snagging clutches. No jerking, no slipping, a great release point and all that combined with a light, simple clutch lever gesture, even when using a stronger spring set. The gear gears for the II COSA clutch are available with teeth 20, 21, 22 and 23. The gears with 20 or 22 teeth fit into 125-150cc engines and the 21 or 23 toothed gears in the 200cc engine without having to also replace the primary pinion with gears. If, on the other hand, another primary gearbox gear or DRT gear clutch gears are used, multiple gear ratios are possible. All large models since the VESPA VNA / VNB range up to 1994 chassis can be equipped with the COSA II clutch. With these 125-150cc existing clutch cover models must be modified to effect the larger size of the COSA II clutch conversion, or replaced with the clutch cover from the 200cc engine with a suitable pressure plate. The traditional Italian manufacturer NEWFREN has a version of the COSA II clutch available with a reinforcement ring welded around the outer diameter of the basket and also springs, stronger than the original elements. This 'ring' version must be included in tuned engines up to about 15 PS. For all of you VESPA OE fans we also have the original PIAGGIO version in stock.
Tip: Unfortunately the production quality standards of both manufacturers of this clutch system has not always been consistent with the high quality they expect from PIAGGIO & CO. It is therefore recommended that these clutches only be used, in their form standard, at least, in original engine configurations. When a reinforcement ring is included, slightly tuned engines can also benefit from this clutch system. If, however, the comfort that this clutch system offers cannot be done without - even in a highly tuned car the use of another more suitable clutch basket produced by ourselves either, MMW or Scooter & Services is strongly recommended.
