The Vespa Piaggio has had a long life studded with great successes and has brought the name of Piaggio to the world by making our country known in the two-wheel sector and giving prestige to Italy.Apart from the prototype, 1946 was the year of the Vespa 98, that is the first and true Vespa that was equipped with a 98 cc engine that delivers a power of 3,2 HP at 4.500 rpm for a speed of 60 km / hour . Two years later, however, the legendary Vespa 125 arrives. The displacement has changed, but an important difference with the previous model concerns the introduction of the rear suspension and the modification of the front one. The Vespa 125 is used by a great director in the film that everyone knows entitled Roman Holidays. The presence in this film with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck confirms the success of the Piaggio Vespa, making it immortal. In 1953 the Vespa Piaggio 125 introduces an important evolution of the engine. The Vespa 125 "U" - that is the utilitarian version - is easily recognized among the various two-wheeled models due to its spartan aesthetics.
In 1955 the Vespa 150 GS arrives. According to the Piaggio two-wheeler experts, this is the "most appreciated, imitated and remembered model". This model introduces many new features. Which?
In 1962 the Vespa 160 GS arrived to try to give continuity to the success achieved with the first GS. What's new in this case? The design and the exhaust silencer, in addition to the carburetor and suspension.
This was followed by the first Vespa 50. This model complies with the new regulations on the highway code regarding the obligation to license plates for vehicles with a higher engine capacity.
In 1965 the Vespa 180 Super Sport replaced the glorious GS and presented a more aerodynamic front shield as well as greater driving comfort.
1968 is the year of the 125 Primavera. Only a year later, however, the legendary 50 Special was born, the one sung by Cesare Cremonini as the singer used to use it to tour the Bolognese hills and breathe full freedom. In these years a new phase of great success begins for Piaggio and Vespa. Both the 125 and the 50 Special collect wide acclaim and enter the hearts of the general public. These are still unforgettable models that collectors jealously preserve.
In 1976 the 125 Primavera ET3 arrives where this acronym means "3 transfer electronics", and marks important changes to the engine which becomes much more powerful and lively. Two years later, in 78, the Vespa PX marks a new and important step forward in both aesthetics and mechanics.
1984 is the year of the automatic PK 125. This special two-wheeler has an automatic gearbox and does not have a foot brake which is replaced by the lever located on the left knob. The starting is electric.
